Luminar Neo Has a special 30% discount

    March 14, 2025

Thought I’d pop out a quick post on a Luminar Neo special
that’s only available to their partners (Moi being one!).
They are offering a 30% discount on either
a Lifetime Perpetual License or 12 months Subscription.
This is only available during the period 14-31/3/2025 – so NOW.
To get this you will need to go through this link and enter the code KATIN10.

I’m about to go off FOR a few weeks so I don’t have time to create a video. But I’ve borrowed one of Luminar Neo’s videos on the relevantly new feature Colour Transfer.
Remember if you want to take advantage of this discount then you will need to go through this link and enter the code KATIN10 between 14th and 31st March.
There are a plenty of other posts on this website if you need refreshing but to use Skylums’s blurb – in a nutshell:
Luminar Neo’s award-winning interface is designed to be convenient for people with different proficiency levels. Complicated multistep tasks are automated with intuitive AI-powered controls.

El Firo – the re-enactment of the 1561 battle of the Moors and Christians is held once a year in port Soller, on the north coast of Mallorca.
This was when Algerian invaders landed on the beach in the Port of Soller and marched to Soller town to claim it for the Arabs.
The Invaders were Moors (Muslims) and had intended to conquer the town and the North Coast of Mallorca

During the festival held in May there is a procession and the actual re-enactmant that starts in Por Soller and ends in the main town of Soller.
It’s alight hearted and needless to say a very ‘merry’ occasion.

One Tioga Road’s highlights within and outside Yosemite. It’s a memorable and dramatic ascent up Lee Vining Canyon from the Mono Valley to the High Sierra meadow at the park’s Tioga Pass entrance, with a waterfall and two lakes for eye candy along the way. This one is Ellery Lake, one of the high points ar 3200M Approx.

Sunrise at Point Walter a picnic spot on the Swan River near Fremantle in Western Australia.

On a recent bike ride past this popular picnic spot I saw this superb sunrise. As we rode close to the jetty I couldn’t resist grabbing my smartphone and capturing it.
The Swan River has some beautiful spots along it’s North and South Banks. Perth has such clear skies and bright light so it’s always best to capture these sort of scenes during the magic times of sunrise or sunset.

  • Icelands Wonders and $500 tour discount!

Icelands Wonders and $500 tour discount!

    May 6, 2024

Last year, whilst in Iceland, I had the opportunity to go and look for aurora borealis, the northern lights. I’ve seen some pretty speccie images of them over the years, so I hoped I’d be able to match them.
This image is one of several and the result of standing in -7C for a couple of hours.
It is an amazing experience seeing the sky ebb and flow in surreal random patterns. One I’ll always remember.

Speaking of Iceland, Luminar Adventures are running an Iceland Photo Tour in August this year.
From dramatic waterfalls to volcanic lakes and mountains, the Iceland excursion promises an unforgettable experience for photography enthusiasts. Organized in collaboration with the local tour operator and led by professional photographers, this tour offers unique opportunities to elevate your photography skills and take breathtaking shots you’ll want to frame on the wall. Organized in partnership with Europe’s leading tour operator Iceland Photo Workshops ehf.

If this is something that interests you (and it should if you can make it work) then go to Iceland Photo Tour book a spot in a normal way on the website and then when you’re asked who referred you, mention my name “NICK KATIN” and you’ll get a US$500 discount.
Unfortunetly I’m travelling around my own country, Australia, at that time otherwise i would love to got back to Iceland – even though I’ve bben twice!!

  • Backup Camera Memory Cards with just a Smartphone

Backup Camera Memory Cards with just a Smartphone

    February 27, 2024
    From Keswick, Lake District, England
    From Keswick, Lake District, England

I posted an article to this site “How to Back up your Travel Photos.” about 2 years ago.
The info in this post is still accurate and relevant except I’ve also discovered a way of backing up on the go without using a laptop.
Now I am talking about backing up memory cards not images taking on a smartphone. The smartphone images should be automatically backed up to the cloud if you have the settings correct.
But even with the latest DSLR”s and Mirrorless Cameras being able to send images to the cloud, their systems are still clunky.
    So let’s get into it.
This video takes you through it:

For those who like pictures and words you need the following:
A Smartphone. I use an android so I’m not sure about iPhones. But I believe this system works with the latest models. So, if you’re in the Apple ecosphere you’ll need to do your own research.

    A hub that has a USB-C cable and USB-A (and/or USB-C) connections.

    A hard drive.

    A memory card reader

Put it altogether and plug into the smartphone and then open “My Files” and you’ll see “USB Storage 1” and “USB Storage 2” plus “USB Storage 3” if you’ve plugged in 2 hard drives.

Go to the memory card storage, which is usually the one with the smallest storage, and find your way to the images.

On the settings button (in this case 3 vertical dots) and select edit and then select all. Tap “copy” and then go back and select the hard drive. Find where you want the images copied to and tap “copy here” and you’ll get a progress pop up.

The operation is complete once the pop up disappears.

Rinse and repeat if you’ve got another hard drive to back up to (recommended).
